PMI launches #WhyPlumbingMatters campaign

Phoenix, Ariz. - From now through mid-April, Plumbing Manufacturers International (PMI) and its members and allies are communicating #WhyPlumbingMatters to maintaining public health and safety and achieving water sustainability. PMI welcomes the amplification of its effort with additional communication from organizations with information about good deeds and activities related to plumbing.

Key dates within this timeframe include World Plumbing Day (March 11), WaterSense’s Fix A Leak Week (March 16-22), and Water Week (April 12-18). PMI communication and activity will consist of news releases, web content, social media, articles in PMI publications, and media outreach. The communication will center around the good deeds and accomplishments of PMI, its members and allies.

For example, PMI contributed to efforts to stop the repeal of a Colorado law promoting WaterSense, a program encouraging the use of water-efficient plumbing products meeting Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) criteria. Efforts by PMI and allies including Denver Water resulted in the repeal bill being defeated in committee by a vote of 7-4. In addition, PMI and allies including the Plumbing Industry Leadership Coalition (PILC) have been very active in California in efforts to maintain flow rates assuring public health and safety. “Let water flow in bathroom faucets,” an op-ed authored by PMI CEO and Executive Director Barbara C. Higgens, was published in the Sacramento Bee in November.

PMI will be communicating #WhyPlumbingMatters content on its website at, its Twitter feed @SafePlumbing, and its Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn platforms. “We encourage our members and allies to share, retweet, like and favorite our content,” Higgens says. “We encourage the vision of safe plumbing and water-efficiency advocates all working together as part of one big effort.”
